The Sate Murmansk Technical University is an owner of the four masts STS “Sedov”.

"Dear friends! I am frequently asked: is “Sedov” a unique ship? And I always proudly answer “Yes!” And its uniqueness is not only defined by a record in the Guinness’ book.
Could anybody think in the far 1921, when the steel giant “Magdalena Vinnen” came off the German stocks, that life had such a wonderful fate in store for the ship.
Second period in the vessel’s history began after change of the owner in 1936. Named “Commodor Yonsen”, it took the first group of cadets aboard. That trip under the command of a famous captain Otto Lemberg has almost ended tragically, but the crew’s fortitude and courage let withstand the elements and drive ship to the port.

"Sedov" was always lucky with captains. Today we gratefully recall Piotr Mitrofanov, who devoted almost whole life to save the ship in ranks. In his times the third, postwar life of the ship began in a stock of Soviet Navy. It was Mitrofanov, who discerned the possibility of a new, fourth life for "Sedov" under the aegis of State Committee of Fisheries as a sailing training vessel for sailors to be.
Since that time thousands and thousands of students practiced marine life under the sails of "Sedov". Not all of them became sailors, but I believe, all of them has stayed patriots of the ship they for the first time went at to the sea and each of them still keeps in mind this voyage with endless sails work, height of masts, self-overcoming and team spirit. In 2011 "Sedov" will be 90. University administration and Fisheries Agency are doing their best to keep our barque sailing for many years. The fourth life of the famous windjammer goes on."
With best wishes and regards, Professor Alexander Ershov
